Wife and husband team Marita and Guglielmo Manenti personally tend to the 4 hectares of vineyards they purchased in 2005. Located in the historical district of Vittoria, in the province of Ragusa, the vineyards are planted in the traditional bush vine (alberello) system, with 6000 vines per hectares. The age of the vines ranges from 20 to 40 years. The reddish calcareous/clay soil is very rich in iron and reaches so deep that no irrigation is ever needed. The grapes are manually harvested in the first week of October. Manenti practices organic farming with minimal intervention in the vineyard. 2006 is their first vintage released. Total production amounts to 10.000 bottles.
Cerasuolo di Vittoria became a DOCG in 2005, the only DOCG in Sicily. In the last century the Ragusa province was so deeply affected by the phylloxera epidemic that most farmers, having witnessed the devastation of their vineyards, decided to change their crops into fruit and vegetables. Only in the last 20 years there has been a steady return to vine growing and Manenti belongs to the new generation of winemakers that work side by side with local farmers with more than 70 harvests under their belts.
The winery was founded in 2006, the year of the first harvest and the first bottles of Cerasuolo di Vittoria Docg. In the following years they decided to diversify production by cultivating the precious native vines Nero d’Avola and Frappato, to offer a high quality wine that interprets to the utmost its traditional territory of belonging. They strongly believe that every bottle has to express two founding principles: honesty and sincerity. The same values that accompany the work of the winemakers in all the production phases of our wines day after day. They are sincere because they proudly carry forward the belief that wine should be made in the vineyard, in a natural, healthy way, respecting the land and its cultivation traditions, the vines and its fruits, categorically rejecting the contribution of invasive chemicals.
