Located in Monterotondo, the heart of Gavi, Villa Sparina was founded by Mario Moccagatta. After taking over in 1997, Mario’s children Stefano, Massimo and Tiziana, have managed to put Gavi back on the map by dramatically reducing yields, introducing French barrique, renovating the cellars and hiring oenologist Beppe Caviola. Their Monterotondo cru was the first Gavi di Gavi to ever win the prestigious Tre Bicchieri award from Gambero Rosso, and the first to break 90 points from Wine Spectator. Since then, Villa Sparina has not been resting on its laurels. For the Moccagatta family, Gavi is a way of life and a source of inspiration. They have created both a fascinating winery and an enchanting resort that reflect their passion for this territory. On top of their extraordinary Gavi, their Barbera Rivalta has also garnered extensive international acclaim.
