This dry, estate-grown Riesling demonstrates Australia’s well-recognized lime and slate characteristics. Vines planted in 1971 in Alkoomi’s gravelly loam soils. A cool wet winter and early spring was followed by a warm even summer with well-timed rainfall and a typically cool autumn. This resulted in perfect ripening conditions and provided an intense flavor profile with optimal natural acidity. Free run juice is fermented in stainless steel and held off from malolactic fermentation. Sterile filtration, minimal sulfur addition.
Alkoomi are a 3rd generation family estate in Frankland River, Western Australia. Wines are estate-grown in this cool climate region.
The original 1220 hectare property was purchased by Sandy’s grandparents, Vic and Netta Lange, in 1946 and initially operated as a mixed grain and livestock farm. It was grandma Netta who chose the name “Alkoomi” for their rugged property, on land over two million years old – a local Aboriginal word meaning “a place we chose”.
